Course Description

This one-day course covers the floating point processor (FPU). Topics include FPU architecture, number representation, the FPU instruction set, special number representation and propagation, and exception handling. Demonstrations will include programming examples, exception handling, and debugging techniques.

Target Audience

Software and hardware engineers, technicians, and others needing knowledge of the FPU.

Objectives

Students will be able to write programs using the FPU, to write exception handlers for the FPU, to decode number formats, and to debug FPU programs and problems.

Prerequisite

Basic knowledge of 80X86 real-mode architecture is suggested but not required.
